About the Faculty

The Medical Faculty is the largest and the main educational, scientific and practical division of Dagestan State Medical University (formerly Dagestan State Medical Academy, Russian Ministry of Health). The supreme governing body of the Faculty is its Academic Council, supervised by the Dean — elected by the Council of Scientists and approved by the Rector's order.

Since 2001, the medical faculty has been headed by Honored Scientist RD, MD, Professor Razin Mirzekerimovich Rahimov, who introduced computer testing into the educational process, significantly improving faculty performance.

Main Directions of Faculty Activity

• Training of young professionals in specialty 060101 "Medicine" in close connection with clinical practice and research, taking into account practical health queries
• Introduction of evidence-based medicine into the educational process at all levels of professional competence
• Active use of scientific schools of the medical faculty for reserve training of highly qualified personnel, increasing motivation of students and young teachers
• Active participation in scientific search, aimed at ensuring a high level of public health and increasing life expectancy
• Guaranteeing the acquisition of necessary clinical experience during practical training and strengthening students' communication with medical institution collectives
• Development of new highly effective methods of treatment and their implementation into practical health care
• Providing high quality care to the population

Training & Curriculum

Training at the Faculty is carried out mainly in three speciality streams: Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Students preparing on specialty 060101.65 "Medicine" study across 50 DSMU departments, 11 of which are departments of the medical faculty, including:

• Department of Faculty Therapy
• Department of Surgery No. 1 & No. 2
• Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Medical Faculty)
• Department of Hospital Surgery
• Departments of Hospital Therapy No. 1, 2 & 3

Manufacturing Practice: Medical Faculty students train at the Republican Clinical Hospital, Republican Urology Centre, Municipal Hospital of Makhachkala Sea Port, Railway Hospital, Republican Centre for Emergency Medical Care, GBUZ "Maternity Hospital No.2", and other leading hospitals.

Awards & Recognition

Medical faculty always had a high level of training, very active research work and high professionalism in medical activities carried out in the departments, clinics and university laboratories. Students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on relevant subjects in scientific circles.

Distinguished Graduates

Graduates of the faculty work in various medical institutions of the republic, Russia and foreign countries, led by major medical and scientific research centres. Among them: Jalaluddin Gadzhievich Saidbek – Professor of the Medical Faculty at the University of Rome "La Sapienza"; Gudrat Mugutdinovich Abdulkadyrov – MD, PhD, Director of the Russian Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (St. Petersburg); and many other internationally recognised physicians and medical scientists.

Graduates have also achieved considerable success in sport — including 2 Honored Masters of Sports of the USSR: five-time world champion and 9-time European champion in freestyle wrestling Zurkarnaevich Ali Aliyev, and Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling Magomedhan Aratsilov.
